Cozumel Diving

Playa del Carmen is located on the Yucatan Peninsula across from Cozumel Island. Playa del Carmen was once known as a tiny fishing village which was mainly visited as the departure point for ferry boats from the mainland to Cozumel.

Playa del Carmen's tourist and diving infrastructure has developed impressively within the past ten years, allowing divers to discover and enjoy the wonderful reefs along the mainland coast, and became for many divers the first point of choice. Playa del Carmen's popularity is probably due to the possibility of combining ocean and cenote diving with a large variety of non-diving activities for the whole family.

However, Cozumel diving is still an attraction for many divers from around the world who want to explore the great coral wall that made the diving on the island world famous. Since 1997, the reefs surrounding Cozumel Island have become a National Marine Park and several programs have been implemented to protect the reefs and ensure a sustainable use of the area to conserve it for future generations. As part of this effort, the flow of visiting divers has been regulated too, by issuing specific permits for dive operators to handle a specific number of divers a day.

Tank-Ha Dive Center, one of the oldest Dive Centers in Playa del Carmen, holds one of these permits to take divers to Cozumel. This allows us to run diving trips directly from our dive center in Playa del Carmen to the Cozumel National Marine Park without landing or changing boats. This direct trip from Playa del Carmen to Cozumel saves divers time and effort.

The Cozumel dive trip leaves from the Tank-Ha Dive Center in Playa del Carmen every Monday, or other days by request for groups of 6 or more divers. Divers meet at the Tank-Ha Dive Center at 8:30 AM for a 9:00 AM departure Mondays. The boat will return around 1:30 PM. Please reserve at least a day in advance.

The dive trip goes over to the National Marine Park of Cozumel with our fast, twin engine, 400 HP 4-stroke, fully equipped (VHF radio, oxygen and first aid kit, fresh water shower) Xaman-ha boat. Maximum 10 divers. Guided dives. Navigation time to the National Marine Park of Cozumel from Playa del Carmen is about 40 minutes.
